History

This unique statewide initiative has interested educators across the nation who are intrigued by the cooperation of so many teacher education institutions and other stakeholders. The question asked is "How did you ever get all the institutions to agree to share data and participate in this research, knowing that it could result in significant program reforms?" The simple answer to the complex and lengthy process is participation and ownership. Since Teacher Quality Partnership grew out of broad participation in the Title II Report Card requirement, interest in both telling the whole story of quality teacher preparation and discovering which components of teacher preparation and professional development really matter are the bonds that keep us working toward those two goals. When the project ends in 2009, findings that will improve the quality of all teachers for all Ohio students will make the effort worthwhile.

When the project was first organized, it was named the Ohio Partnership for Accountability and had a logo of a hand shake to symbolize the agreement among the partners. Once the study became known nationally, a broader title, Teacher Education Partnership: Meeting the Teacher Accountability Challenge, was chosen to better reflect the teacher education goals. The new logo symbolizing both quality in education and "out-of-the-box" thinking were represented by the current symbol used throughout the website.
